Creating this book cover was such a fun project! After doing some market research I noticed how serious a lot of the book covers for this novel are, it inspired me to want to create a more fun, light-hearted version of this classic story. As part of the project brief, we were asked to create the book cover with a photographic element being the main event. So, as seeing no one else was around to participate, I decided to capture my own profile to symbolize the ever-famous heroine, Lizzie Bennet. She is one of the most iconic characters of all time with so much depth. It was exciting to try and capture her being for a small moment. I knew I wanted to the profile to almost feel painted, so it didn't matter what background I took my photo with, as long as it was in good lighting. I pulled my hair up in a bun and went on from there!
After pulling the profile from the background in Photoshop, I transferred it to Illustrator and cleaned up the edges with the paintbrush so it wasn't so choppy (and adjusted the bun... my hair isn't that full :). It worked well and was exactly what I was envisioning!
Lastly, came the text. I knew I wanted to the text to be script because of the time period and type of novel. It made sense to have it front and center, all other text was adjusted from the title! Overall, I am happy with how it turned out and loved being able to personally be apart of the recreation of such an iconic and classic story.
